In groups can simply be defined as people with whom one shares the social interests as well as attitudes. Because of this shared interests, their influence is very significant. They determine how one views the world a great deal (Krauss, 2011). Their role as agents of socialization in our lives helps to shape most of our thoughts and attitudes and therefore determine our approach to the world. In this paper, I will look at three in groups in terms of age, religion and family.
In terms of age, people seem to identify well with those whom they are of the same age bracket (Krauss, 2011). In this case, one finds himself or herself being influenced by their activities. This identification helps them to do and believe in the things they believe. For instance, peers will influence each other in terms of which sports to take, what type of music to listen to among many other things. In this regard, this peer group interests and attitudes dictate a person worldview. Krauss (2011) argues that distinctions between in groups and out groups (those who do not belong to our group) determine a great deal our interests.
The family as the first agent of socialization also plays a major role in directing our belief system and attitudes (Krauss, 2011). The family we come from will determine, more so, what religion we will be affiliated to. It also determines our interests on most cases in terms of career and sometimes the friends we have. The shared family interests give us a sense of belonging, which determines, since we are little children, how we view the world (Krauss, 2011). Therefore, the family plays a major role in shaping our worldview.
Religion also plays a role in shaping our worldview. The shared religious beliefs determine how we view the world and respond to things in life. Therefore, in groups play a major role in shaping the way we do things and hence our worldview.
