Reflection on Memory

The information that was new to me this week is about Perceptual Priming where exposure to a certain stimulus will influence my response to succeeding stimulus without intention. The information I was not exposed to before is that priming can be used as an education tool by presenting learning materials before the lesson begins for students to preview and familiarize themselves with it. This helps them to pay more attention during the actual lesson and understand better.

The types of working memory overloads I experience in my daily life are cognitive load where the attention I give to different tasks is not the same for it to be completed successfully. Intrinsic load refers to how complex a certain task is. Extraneous load refers to how information is presented for a particular task. Germane load help to understand how a particular task is supposed to be performed.

The types of long term memories that I personally have the best memory for are episodic memory of events that happened in the past and procedural memory of how to do things for example how to ride a bicycle. The types of long term memories that I personally have the worst memory for are semantic memory because I am not able to store information about the world for example capital city of different countries and remembering the meaning of vocabularies.

The information that confused me the most this week is about the working memory. The question I have is whether the working memory in adults can be improved and is it possible to store information that is similar together in the working memory? The clarifications I have are that working memory in adults can be improved through training and determining the approaches that work best.
