Overview of Best Practices Recommended by Researchers
Organizations achieve objectives through their workforce, and therefore everyone within an organization has to be aware of the strategic goals and objectives with a common interest. To apply best practices effectively in performance management, individuals of an institute have to set own goals and targets in line with the strategic objectives (Clardy, 2013). Therefore, managing employees’ performance is a critical aspect in maintaining best practices, and upholding the best practices within an organization by employees make performance management easier.
Performance improvement through best practices and active performance management benefits organizations in maintaining higher performance standards (Axson, 2010). Institutions have to be consistent in performance management practice achievable through setting standard practices to become more effective and efficient in executing strategies. Forward-thinking bodies institute employee best practices to achieve desired results over innovative solutions to actualize outcomes and maintain high performance (Sidorov, 2015). Many agencies are currently adopting automated performance management systems to implement and maintain best practices.
Short Description of Selected companies
Healthcare institutions currently adopt business management strategies in their running, and even though not all have successfully adopted the practice, those that apply the practice achieve higher performance. One institution adopted performance management tools that are easy to use and support employee interaction, guiding them through building skills necessary for the success of their organization. The other institution adopted performance management tools at the top level for the use by the directorate without engaging the staff in the system adoption and providing no compensation for successful use (Devi & Manafi, 2015). Good performance is a continuous cycle of what actual work should be, coaching and valuation of workers performance.
Successful Application of Best Practices
The institution that implemented an integrated performance management system that supports each member of the organization ensured that every individual was aware of his or her contribution to the organization. Every individual had an awareness of the purpose of the system and given all time opportunity to interact with the system and offer feedback that brace tracking of performance (Bingham, 2012). The support and coaching offering within institution enable individuals and departments to set clear strategic direction that is in line with the organizational objectives. Helping employees to maintain best practices as per the standards of organization, set individual targets and facilitate feedback supports successful application of best practice.
Unsuccessful Application of Best Practices
As healthcare institutions strive to adopt performance management systems, some may still have inefficiencies due to the complexity of the industry. Best practices should be a restraint of every person within an organization, and, therefore, the systems adopted should take into account the input of every person (Cheng, Dainty, & Moore, 2006). Adopting a performance management system at the top does not support the feedback mechanism that is appropriate for tracking organizational practices and performance measures. Individuals must all set targets and through an automated integrated system provide feedback on their practice and progress.
Recommendations
Mutual objective setting and standards establishment gives a sense of commitment to performance and best practices (Beer, Eisenstat, & Foote, 2009). It is critical that in adopting automated performance management system, it needs integration, and has to support people with their work. Feedback by employees is of the essence for tracking performance and progress, and any system would be best if it supports the aspect and had ease of use to avoid system failures.
