Girl Child Killer Believes
When thinking of any story to read, no clue of any, a story to tell, no idea either, but I can recall time when I was a young one, during sunset days of my grandmother, she narrated several old aged stories. Stories, very interesting, touching and educating stories. Most of them were on survival tactics, how life was tough and only strong and beautiful ones could manage. Yes, vividly I remember a story about a lovely lady, desperate for an inspiration, from any direction of compass, perhaps sent from heaven by Allah (God). Each Day, after sunset she retired to her bed hopping difference in tomorrow. She is always playing a background role in the family, cooking for the family, receiving guests coupled with household errands that come by each day. She was wrapped in religion and traditional believes that freedom to make her own decision was against society norms. “The most critical issue affecting Muslim women is accommodating oppressive practises and assume they do not have any sort of discrimination” (Krayem, 2013). This was religion where Boys are treated differently from Girls and naivety ruled the girl child’s mind. The scenario made it possible for them to be exploited and taken as an object as opposed of being human beings.
Natural environmental features like riverbanks provided the only place where she could perhaps visit for her peace of mind and listen to herself. Yes, she always found riverside the most beautiful place to be and could go there most of the times. (Anrnason, 1989).”Trees laying side by side on the riverbank …and green leaves provided a gentle breeze”. A cool place where she could see no one apart from herself, talk to no one apart from herself. As a woman, you were supposed to obey what your lord says and serve the society. Male were Seen and treated with respect as lords. Mothers were used to intimidate girl child more, instil the sense of inferiority and make the future girl generation to follow the same suit.
Gender equality was another pressing issue, Fatima wished that someone could bring balance in gender, so that she could have equal rights as her brothers, the society could not allow. In his article, The Girl’s Story Arnason differed with gender equality supporters “I’m going to have trouble with feminists about this story” (Arnason, 1989). He strongly disagreed with anyone who believed that women should have same rights and opportunities as men. This was really been a girl eater society and Fatima was no exception.
For this narrative, I’m particularly focused on this particular Muslim girl child. She was naturally beautiful and rose on strong ethical of self-discipline. You do not have to be a sheikh nor his follower to understand this story, yes, I believe so, and can you read and understand? Fatima is subjected to all sorts of oppression and the feeling of freedom was burning inside her heart. (Arnason, 1989) “…the river is so calm underwater, that’s how a girl, relaxed face but much passion inside her”. She was deeply in thought of how her planned forced marriage was going to be, Bride price has already been paid, a man double her age was the husband awaiting. She has never experienced what love is, or how it feels to be in one. All her brothers were taken to school while she was left at home, a poor naive girl was in deep thoughts. As she tries to get in terms with the situation, she threw objects in the flowing water , a sign of denying reality .
This is the D-day and zero hour is here, the father leads her to the tall old looking man, which was a transformation for Fatima, from Houselady to a housewife (Arnason, 1989).
