Deviant Behavior

A 25-year old man used to murder women and throw their bodies off the balcony of his flat, which was located on the fifth floor of a ten-storey skyscraper. His behavior was the kind one would consider deviant because it fails to adhere to widely accepted norms in society. The killing was extremely brutal as the assailant maimed the bodies greatly as evidenced by autopsy reports that were to come later following the discovery of the serial killer. Apart from killing, the assailant is also said to have subjected all his victims to extreme torture and inhuman treatment. Nobody knew the exact motives of the young man or thing that drove him to engage in those killings. In addition, it remained elusive why he preferred women only (Ramslan, 2006). Surprisingly, autopsy reports indicated none of the women had been assaulted sexually prior to her killing. Vaginal swabs collected from the bodies were taken from one government laboratory to the other, but even the slightest evidence of rape was not noted.

Over a hundred men and women witnessed this deviant behavior. On this occasion, the serial killer arrived with a potential victim, a woman he had lured to his house. Many occupants of the building saw the man enter the house along with the women, but nobody bothered much as it looked normal for a man to bring a commercial sex worker home on a Friday. Unfortunately, the woman was too strong for her assailant. The fight that ensued and the incessant cries of the woman drew a large crowd, comprising over a hundred occupants to the scene. On rescuing the victim, they could not help but waft their noses continuously at the foul smelling in the well-furnished flat. Badly injured bodies lay on the balcony some fresh, others decayed. The young man was unmoved; the discovery did not elicit any worry in him. Neither did he answer any of the questions the mesmerized onlookers asked.

The group’s reaction to the behavior can be called mixed. While some started beating up the assailant, others were busy attempting to identify the bodies that were strewn all over the balcony. However, a consensus was reached that the killer should not receive ‘mob justicebecause his behavior was peculiar. Certain questions needed to be answered, and this could not be done in such a setting. What puzzled the group was the fact that the killer was a professional; it was known he worked in a local company as a senior administrator. Therefore, the group was curious and wanted to know the motive behind the merciless killings. Because of the curiosity, the group decided to engage the police, whom the killer did not talk to also. Among the tenants, there were those who claimed the garbage system leading from this man’s house was full of more bodies. True to their word, four more bodies, also female, were recovered from there. In total, the serial killer had murdered 12 women (Golgowski, 2014).

Informing the police was one way the group controlled the behavior of this killer. In addition, most of them also testified in the court of law to facilitate the conviction. Nevertheless, the man pleaded guilty to five counts of charges among them assault, torture, and murder. The confession did not surprise many people, but the failure to disclose the motive behind the behavior did (Birnes & Keppel, 2003).
