Contemporary Challenges Latin America Faces in a Globalizing World
Latin America comprises of four major sub-regions identifiable by those speaking Romance languages on the American continent. The major regions comprise the North America within Mexico, towards the south to include Central America, the Caribbean area and South America (Del Casino, Knox, Liverman, Marston, & Robbins, 2013). The region is multiethnic, interracial, multicultural, interreligious, and so deals with different challenges basing also on the differences of the sub-regions in terms of geography and climatic conditions (Del Casino, et al., 2013). Due to its peculiarity and the apparent difference that exists in the area, the region faces challenges in the globalizing world given the variance the region deals with in specific states.
The contemporary problem is the vast physical and geographical difference in the area. While some parts are deserts and inhabitable, others have a conducive atmosphere with moderate climate while others are frigid influencing demographic distributions in the area. For instance, the places with the mild climates have dense inhabitance in comparison to the two extremities (Del Casino, et al., 2013). Commodity dependence is another challenge in the region whereas countries depend on exporting the raw products without the thought of exporting the final products even as the region has the capacity. Social inclusion is another major challenge.
People from all races and cultures around the globe inhabit the region and finding a lasting integration may not be tenable. In the wake of governance, some groups still push for dominance with the urge to preserve their language and culture (Del Casino, et al., 2013). The region can advance on the demographic alterations to promote growth and infrastructural expansion that support every people and place. The gap of inequality can reduce through offering equal opportunity for people and establishing stronger educational systems that support everyone while providing a business climate that promotes comparative advantage over other regions.
