Learning Outcome
According to Curtis & Manning (2015), leadership is a concept that is applicable to every level of society and organizations with different people expressing their abilities through opportunities offered to them through the institution they lead. The course is expected to explore different theories and concepts around leadership and the practicality of the learnt concepts through various societies and groups. Different people express forms of leadership, and the groups led draw a range of views from the leaders with some approving while others disapproving the leadership in place. For a leader to be effective there are inherent qualities that a person should express that in turn would see the organization and people excel. The course began by giving a comprehensive idea on the definition of the term ‘leader’ and concepts of leadership.
The focus of the session was on examining types and forms of commands that exist together with the study of appropriateness of leadership. There are leaders who make a good leadership and see their institutions excel while there are others who are ineffective and lead their organizations to failure. Leaders must carefully use qualities within them to move masses and convince those who oppose their tenure to support their leadership and the programs that they undertake to see the organization excel. The knowledge I gained during the week has given me understanding on issues relevant to leading and the aspects that make a good or bad leader.
I can confidently adjust to my leadership styles and ensure success of the programs or institutions I lead through positive influence and giving opportunities for learning. As a lecturer, I can articulately guide the students in their mission to understand the concepts and issues relating leadership and mentor them to making up effective leaders in the society for their future benefits. There was great success, and minimal challenges in the manner of the course presentation and during discussions, and the materials for use in the session were available.
