Reflecting on Goleman’s Concept of emotional intelligence

  1. My strongest quality is self-awareness because I find myself able to recognize and understand my moods, emotions, and drive their affect others. This component of emotional intelligence gives me accuracy, self-confidence, and the ability to make self-assessment. In a relationship, I always focus on trying to control myself by understanding how my attitude and behavior affect others.

My weakest quality is social awareness because I find myself having trouble in understanding the emotional make-up of other individuals and skills and treating people according to their emotional reactions. However, I am working towards building empathy, cross-cultural diversity, and service to stakeholders to overcome this weakness.

  1. I consider myself to have a high degree of emotional intelligence because I always find myself listening well to others no matter what kind of situation in which I am. I always know just what to say and how to put it across so that I do not offend or upset others. My colleagues regard me as caring and considerate because even if I do not find a solution to their problem, they usually leave feeling more optimistic. 
  2. I am humanly oriented more than I possess other personal values because I like positively viewing people and relationships. Since I am honest with myself and self-confident to act independently, it would help me manage others. I believe in building my interpersonal skills by watching and modeling others through experience because if I am seeking to manage others I must first manage myself. 
  3. I fit best as a guardian because I am responsible, helpful, hardworking, sociable, loyal, stable, traditional, and law-abiding. This way I can manage the affairs of another person if that individual is unable to conduct the affairs. For example, I can care for children who are below age 18. I can also supervise the personal wellbeing of adults who might not manage some of their affairs.
