Social expectations men try to live up to
Men feel that they are expected to make money and think that they are defined by the amount of money that they have saved in their bank accounts. Even when women are working and earn a salary equivalent to that of men, men are still expected to be wealthy and provide for all the needs of the family. Men expect to win and are the best compared to all other people even at the workplace they expect to be high in the hierarchy. Men have a culture of being competitive to be at the top because they believe competition makes them stronger.
The other expectation is that men are strong physically because they are big, more powerful and masculine. Men believe that they are supposed to be tall and the short ones try to find ways of using growth hormones. Men should have inborn ability to do things without seeking assistance such as fixing broken doors and electrical appliances. That is why boys at a tender age are taught by their fathers and brothers how to fix electrical and mechanical objects. Men expect to take care of women and satisfy all their needs without failing.
How might these expectations benefit/harm men?
These expectations benefit men because competition helps those at the top because they are rewarded and promoted at work and become dominant in society. Fixing things make men know that they are better than women and are self-reliant in doing things. These expectations help men to have peace of mind when they know that they are winners and not losers.
These expectations harm men because they feel that they are dissatisfied when they are not able to provide for the daily needs of the family. Parents disapprove marriage of partners if they are not wealthy. Ego in men results in a war that is why many men fight because they never accept defeat. Many men commit suicide and engage in irresponsible behaviors when they do not succeed in life as a result of depression.
