Right to End Life
Faced with a terminal illness, people should have the right to end their life. Agree or disagree?
I agree with this issue because terminally ill people may not live long even if doctors continue taking care of them. They request doctors to assist them through euthanasia. When we realize that these people experience great agony, it is very sad and their only hope is assisted suicide. Euthanasia helps them through painless death because the disease cannot be cured and they are not able to endure the suffering anymore (Nahas, Côté & Gaston, 2015).
Sometimes medications to relieve pain do not help; they need help to end the pain that has no cure. If the terminally ill patient requests for assisted suicide, he or she should have the right to do so because it is the only option. The physical suffering of a dying person may be very difficult for the family to bear if medical technology is not able to save the person. When all the time the members of the family see the pain and suffering of the terminal ill person, they sympathize with the patient a lot which make them lack peace of mind or even suffer depression (Nahas, Côté & Gaston, 2015).
The medical costs of a terminally ill person are too high in order to remain alive every day. It is expensive to save human lives in the process prolonging the life that is left in a terminal ill person. This may not be affordable especially the medical bills when a loved one passes away after a long period of illness. There is a huge bill to be paid in the hospital which may result in financial ruin. Most terminally ill patients prefer their death to be peaceful without exposing the relatively to huge expenses which may not save their lives. When a terminal ill patient opts for assisted suicide, there are no financial burdens left to their families and they do not suffer a lot before they pass away (Monk, Houck, & Shear, 2007).
