A major critique of "Porgy and Bess" is that it showed black Americans in the worst possible light -- poor, ignorant, superstitious, violent, sexually promiscuous, etc. Using your comparison of Bessie Smith and Duke Ellington from last week, OR another of the videos that I posted (except "Strange Fruit," as it is really at the very fringe of the end of the Renaissance), compare and contrast one element of "Porgy and Bess" with one element of the video of choice.
