The Comparative Paper – 4 options

? A paper of 3-5 pages (minimum): full pages [no more than 1-inch margins – strictly
enforced, typed, and double-spaced. The title page and any footnotes/ bibliography
are on separate pages. Submit both a hard copy and an electronic copy preferably
before or by the last class.
? It is not a traditional footnoted research papers; but are meant to demonstrate
your ability to apply relevant content (perspectives, concepts, specific terms)
taken from this course to two lists of eligible readings and viewings. On the title
page, list how many terms you have used in your analysis. The best grades go to
papers and projects that best apply these terms.
? Two lists – eligible films and eligible books/articles - are provided on BB. For
option 1, select and compare 2 films (min. 3-5 pgs). For option 2: select two books
and/or articles (min. 3-5 pages). For option 3, select and compare 1 film and 1 book
(min.3- 5 pages). For option 4, select and compare 3 interviews from Crossing the
Blvd (not covered in class)
? Note that the more course terms and concepts that you correctly apply and the more
analytical and original (your) thinking that you show, the higher is your grade.

? By a date TBA ____ your choices must be proposed on paper and handed in. This
includes a specific paragraph stating your choice and how you will approach it. This
must be OK’d by the instructor before you begin the work. If you are asked to do a
revision, a revised proposal will be due via email (within 10 days, but not later
than Nov. 10th .)
? While 1 or 2 quotations are acceptable for highlighting a key point, this is not a
