Learning Outcomes
The session effectively brought about ways in which international companies set up and run in foreign markets and the necessary steps in designing and restructuring it to fit the different segments it operates. Various organizational forms and the evolution of international companies is critical knowledge that enables one to visualize the actual operations of such a company and envision operational structures that fit it. The knowledge from the session affected my thoughts in that I can understand strategizing concepts a business venturing into foreign markets can employ to succeed. I can understand how changes in an organization may result in a change in strategies and how policy formulation could bring about changes too.
The knowledge I have acquired during the session would assist me while acting like a leader of an international business to formulate ways that would see it succeed amidst uncertainties and unforeseen occurrences. I would apply the knowledge on organizational issues and challenges, design and strategies in advising companies on the right path to take in their ventures. As a lecturer, I will pass on the knowledge to students to enable them best understand the challenges and operations of a global company and the steps taken to ensure operation of such firms. Also, the knowledge has added to my understanding issues I did not personally know or understand about the international companies and their start up in new places.
There were no notable challenges as the session was presented in proper flow and topics had cases that were analyzed to aid the learning process. The moment of discovery came when I realized that on venturing into new places where you do not expect competitors, you should plan for the same since they may come along unexpectedly (Ball, Geringer, Minor, McCulloch, & McNett, 2013). Strategies in place should cater for possible competition, creating partnerships and launching products in the new market that would make the company gain and not lose.
