Topic 1 _Learning Helplessness, Textbook p. 58 and this websitehttp://www.britannica.com/topic/learned-helplessness
My friend TT was addicted to alcohol for the last four months. He wanted to abandon it but he thought of himself that it was impossible to stop taking alcohol on daily basis. I told him that it was possible to stop it only that he needed to set his out of the alcoholism thinking and get himself busy doing other things when he was off the job in the evening. On response, TT said that he was unable to abstain from excessive alcohol consumption because he was already addicted. TT decided to remain an alcoholic because he thought he could do nothing to save the situation. Learned helplessness is diagnosed in my friend TT when he believes that nothing practical could be done to save his situation. This helplessness feeling leads to a negative anticipation.
Learning helplessness is a basic attitude of behavioral concept, which demonstrates that through learning, it can lead to a radical alteration in ones’ behavior, and that outcomes are so uncontrollable. It tries to find out the reasons why individual will admit and continue being submissive to negative conditions regardless of their capability to change from them.
This theory of learned helplessness can also be used to address other situations including domestic violence, poverty, clinical depression, academic achievement and discrimination.
Topic 2_ Other People’s Judgment, Textbook page 39and this website https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/subliminal/201206/how-we-are-judged-our-appearance
My neighbor is a tall handsome, muscular and a night talking person. Ladies around my place admire him so much as they can see he looks romantic. My neighbor is a bachelor person not because he is young or economically unstable to have a valid relationship but because he is very unromantic unlike his charming looks. I came to this when I happened to ask one of his former girlfriends and was left in a shock to realize that he is not only unromantic but also very unromantic to maintain a cold relationship. Every single woman who comes across him will admire to walk alongside person, give him a hug and feel his abs but that cannot last for any long because the person will come to mishandle you.
Judging people by their physical appearance is one common factor within almost every human being. People’s judgment covers a wide variety of qualities not just in romance and physical appearance. Within our perceptions, varying from hearing to visionary, to the images we generate of other persons characters, our insentient mind starts from the data that is originally available to us and continue to construct a more complete image as the data becomes dependable.
Topic 3_ Labeling, Textbook, page 12 https://www.psychologytoday.com
I heard a young boy calling a prisoner a murderer, simply because he was convicted into handcuffs and escorted by two police officers. I really felt bad and I told the boy that not every prisoner is charged guilty of murder. Then the boy again told the handcuffed man that he was not a murderer but just a good person who happened to murder someone. Then I was left wondering whether everybody arrested by police is a murderer.
People are mostly labelled character-wise. The character that the people have displayed over long period like musicians or athletes. Labeling could be a sensible reflection of who the people are at present, but it also reflects a custom that the character signifies a person’s essence.

Last week my friend was involved in a grisly road accident. He was hit by a running car on his lower abdomen and was seriously injured. An ambulance came in time to help him reach the hospital as quickly as possible. In his critical condition, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he found all the ICU capacity full at the moment. He had to be rushed to another health center where on reaching there, the management demanded to be paid first before admitting him. The hospital management declined to attend to the patient simply because he was a poor person and he could not afford to pay the amount requested at first. Since there were no other hospitals around with the required facilities to help my critically injured friend. The ambulance crew had no otherwise than give him their fruitless service that counted least to save his life.
Different people will react differently to particular choices presented unto them. If the choice will lead to loss of either money or reputation, they will not dare attempt even if it is urgent but if the choice has a potential to earn them again they will be ready to take a risk.
Topic 5_ Culture and Self-Esteem, Textbook page 43 http://www.spspblog.org/
I have a younger brother who refuses almost every kind of material support given to him. He claims that he is happy and capable to find his own path to the jackpot and earn himself whatever he would like. This comes in him because; our parents and I have all gone through a lot of challenging times before making it to the jackpot. Everybody is independent and with a belief that we would make one. Therefore, like parents and I, he would not like to entertain anybody’s possession until he can generate his own. He is born in a family with a culture of hardworking and self-respect so he is up to safeguard the reputation of the family for being a dedicated and focused boy.
People are known to assess themselves positively therefore gaining high self –esteem when they can see themselves with a valid potential of living to their life expectations. Different people come from different cultures with varied levels of self –esteem. Independent people who happen to be successful have such a high self-esteem compared to others whose success is depended on other people. People normally feel better when their culture is respected and held with high esteem and as a result, they will be dedicated to do all that is possible to honor their culture and preserve their self-esteem.
