Work ethics helps to meet the goals and objectives that lead to success.
What is Work Ethics?
Work ethics involves how to do the job or responsibilities that are assigned to you. It includes the attitude, how to interact with others, the mode of communication as well as behavior. Work ethics includes being honest and accountable in whatever you do in different situations. Work ethics requires one to tell the truth, not stealing, doing the work assigned to you well, valuing what you do and taking part in accomplishing the vision at the workplace. The people who value work ethics do the right thing all the time in all situations and require minimal supervision to complete the tasks assigned to them. Work ethics should always come from within where you desire to do the job well with integrity.
What Is Good and Bad Work Ethics (Give Examples of Your Work Ethics)
Good work ethics involves reliability and dependability where you consistently provide high-quality work and always accurate according to the specifications provided. Dependability shows that employers can always turn to you to get a solution to different situations. Dedication to the tasks assigned is also very important where you do everything to make sure the performance is the best. Dedication involves working extra hours beyond the expectation of the employer.
Good work ethics involves high productivity because of working very fast and the ability to meet deadlines. More productive individuals are easy to manage and are strong workers and of great benefit to the company. Cooperative workers are very important because they know that teamwork yields better results. They put more effort and work well with others respecting those in authority as well as respond politely. Self-discipline is good work ethics where you push yourself to complete a certain task without the intervention of other people. This character distinguishes employees because they are always trustworthy and provide quality work. Self-disciplined employees work hard and lead to the high productivity of the companies.
Punctuality is good work ethics for employees who value their jobs and are seriously making them arrive and begin their job early. Discipline is very important to stay focused on the assigned tasks and put more effort into the job to be done. Professionalism help employees to avoid inappropriate behavior, act according to what is expected and always ensure they do what is expected of them to complete the task in a professional way (Shaw, 2002).
Bad work ethics
Procrastination is bad work ethics where there is a delay in completing work until the last minute. If the last-minute rush affects the performance of other workers, they will be angered and blame you due to the failure of a project that is not completed within the time provided. Lying is bad work ethics which involves making false statements especially lying on the number of hours worked, stealing from the workers and misuse of expense accounts. Lying may bring your career to an end because many companies do not tolerate liars who bring about downfall due to the huge losses.
Negativity through complaining and gossip is bad work ethics. This makes employees be a problem for the managers because they are not motivated to work hard and become less productive. They complain a lot and seek the support of co-workers instead of speaking direct to the managers. Tardiness is arriving to work late or after the break, you arrive late after everybody else is settled at work. This shows carelessness and lack of time-conscious because you do not take your job seriously and affect the time of other people.
Poor communication through the email is bad work ethics where some employees do not respond to emails or you do not access the email as required at the workplace. This may be taken to be rude because one can delay to complete work, fail to meet deadlines or miss to attend important meetings. Addiction to social media can lead to job loss where employees spend time on websites that are not related to the work assigned to them. Being inattentive is bad work ethics if you get distracted easily and cannot assess the culture of the place you are working (Chester, 2012).
