Politics and the English language
My analysis is on the current poor state of English language and contribution politics has had on this problem. Contrary to believe that nothing can be done to avoid abuse of English language, I possess the opinion that it can be shaped despite our civilization being decadent. The main problem that has led to the deplorable state of English language is the notion that in the modern society language grows naturally and cannot be a tool to be shaped for one’s purpose. However, if language is not taught and applied correctly it would have negative effect both politically and economically, which would make the current problem more complex (Orwell, 2013). The bad habits in the modern English language are usually spread through imitation and can therefore be avoided though proper learning and willingness to avoid them. Once this objective is achieved, users of the language will think more clearly, which will be the beginning of the process of political regeneration (Orwell, 2013). For example, in both written and spoken English bad habits are characterized by staleness of imagery and lack of precision where the writer or speaker is unable to express the intended meaning in the phrases used. The modern English is thus characterized by blend of vagueness and sheer incompetence especially in political writings (Orwell, 2013). This analysis is focusing to develop clear thoughts to avoid corrupting language, which would in the end corrupt thought too. Metaphors, similes and other figures of speech that have only been seen in print should not be used. Writers should avoid Long phrases where short ones can do as well as cutting out words where possible. If an active phrase can apply, the speaker or writer should avoid a passive one (Orwell, 2013).
