Leading Cause of Death in Adolescents, Textbook p.353 and cpc (http:www.cpc.gov/nchs/databriefs/db37.htm

Accidents, homicide, suicide, cancer and heart diseases have been cited to be the leading causes of death among the adolescents (cpc). Accidents account for about half of these deaths. In this sense, accidents are then the leading cause of death among the adolescents.

From this information, it is certain that death among adolescents is mostly caused by external causes of injury (cpc). This can be attributed to the fact that most adolescents, in a bid to seek their independence from authority, live reckless lives characterized by rebellion to parents and seniors. In a bid to gain independence from authority, many teenagers develop a reckless lifestyle that makes them more prone to accidents than any other group.

Death rate among the adolescents increases with every increase in years of age (cpc). The reason for this can possibly be that the more they advance in age, the more they try to seek freedom and hence expose themselves to dangerous living. Their exploration of the world and their desire for liberty, or rather, to be given more space to enjoy themselves, make teenagers engage in activities that greatly endanger their lives. It is important to note that deaths among the adolescents can be prevented given the fact that most of these deaths result from external factors that can be prevented from happening. With the leading cause being accidents, it is possible to mitigate these accidents
