Biggest Challenge Facing Supply Chain Managers
Supply chain managers have the responsibility of ensuring smooth flow of operations by appropriate controls and resource allocations. Scheduling is the common concept for controlling tasks in work center and resource use over time lying within the process to equate the workflows and cash flow (Chase, & Jacobs, 2014). Managers are at the core of shaping productive resources and ensuring the accomplishment of work within the set period and if they do not determine the order in which tasks are run, then their departments are likely to fail or achieve less. It is upon managers to identify a system that support their systems capacity to determine the schedule.
Without proper scheduling and control of work in the supply chain, it is possible to forget the day-to-day task in the supply chain due to its complexity. The capacity of the resources required to complete tasks can be a challenge for a supply chain manager if not sufficient (Chase, & Jacobs, 2014). The actual sequence by which work is done by the capacity of the resources available can also be a problem considering the conflict of tasks and the lack of proper scheduling. In the essence, there can be overloading of resources due to insufficiency and improper scheduling within the supply chain and, therefore, proper balance is of significance.
Managers can have a challenge with capacity planning in the manner in which equipment, jobs, and personnel are allocated to different locations in the short run or long run. Appropriate determination of job priorities is essential in maintaining the day-to-day tasks and that the jobs are initiated to keep the flow of work (Chase, & Jacobs, 2014). Controlling production activity can also confront managers in managing jobs as they are performed, considering critical tasks. Scheduling supports the continuity of job performance by drawing on the previous works to ensure that priorities are set right and resource allocation is appropriate.
