The most significant thing is to understand our own emotions to know the necessary therapy. The therapist should be skilled in understanding their clients whenever they encounter them so that they make better decisions. During the sessions, clients will come with different needs that require an optimal response and therefore they should understand their feelings well and handle them so that the response they give to their clients is in the best interests of the clients. As a therapist, it is important to perceive the inner emotions of other people to know what they want. If a therapist cannot recognize his feelings in a therapeutic situation, it can be to the disadvantage of the clients because no much help will be provided (Corey, 2015).
Therapeutic goals should help clients to recognize themselves and move forward with their normal lives whereby they can cope with situations that lead to anxiety. Different individuals go for counseling with different perceptions which requires the counselor and the client to team up to achieve the goal. The counselor should assist in how to cope with difficult situations efficiently for the affected individuals to change their behavior patterns. The counselor should help clients who have problems with poor self-esteem to improve the quality of their lives through good interpersonal relationship.
The main goals of counseling should include helping individuals to make decisions that are critical so that they can have alternative courses of action. This will help to get important information and understand their emotions that interfere with the decisions that they make. They will understand their interests, abilities as well as attitudes that influence their choices. Therapists should help clients to be aware of themselves for them to know that everyone has his/her strengths and weaknesses. They should face situations in life with confidence and never feel helpless even if they are faced with difficult situations (Corey, 2015).
