Dissertation Process and Responsibilities
Apollos University dissertation process was designed to provide doctoral learners, mentors, chairs and committee members a consistent responsibility guideline that each of them needs to follow throughout the dissertation process. These responsibilities are also assigned in pre, post and during the oral defense, in consistency with the university standards.
A student is incumbent of success of personal doctoral dissertation process and must provide an acquaintance with the process, procedures and events of dissertation, working closely with the chair and the mentor. A student must express understanding of the Dissertation Procedure Guide, together with the Dissertation Process and Responsibility procedure and register for a research certification process. The student must also complete proposal and dissertation submission documents and take responsibility in coordinating any oral presentation. After the committee approval of the proposal, the student develops and coordinates Dissertation Process Schedule “in consultation with the chair and committee members” and then collects data (Hawaii, 2014).
The chair on his/her part “serves as a link between the student and the university”, and must ensure student success without any impediment (Business, 2014). The chair must ensure “accountability of the student and the university throughout the process, and that the student holds highest ethical and professional standards” (Weber, 2014). The chair must be well conversant with the dissertation guidelines and procedures and maintain regular communication with the student, the academic dean’s office and the committee members. The chair is also responsible for resolving issues of, and leading the committee, while reporting any issues of concerns regarding the dissertation and ensuring standards are met.
Committee members, on the other hand, must be conversant with dissertation procedures and guidelines, while keeping in touch with the Academic dean and the student regularly. They are tasked with ensuring that the students’ research and dissertation meet the University standards. They also make any necessary recommendation on the dissertation process and uphold university standards and policies. They work closely with the chair in addressing any issue and in participating through the dissertation and oral defense conference.
