Topic 3 – Anxious Attachment, found in the series “Law and Order: SVU”. In one of the series, Trevor and Benson are relating to Miss Jackson about a kid named Noah. Benson says Noah is eating a lot lately. As Miss Jackson inspects the kitchen, she asks about Noah’s outdoor activities. Benson says there is a scheduled exercise time at the daycare and that the babysitter takes him out daily. Trevor adds that Benson spends weekends and mornings with him and Benson adds many other things they do together. She says that the child did not interact as an infant and that he did not wish that he be far behind in language development. The conversation goes on and Miss Jackson says she will recommend Benson as the adoptive parent to Noah.
It is later established that Noah’s biological father is Johny, a man who is suspected of all manner of crimes including rape, assault, trafficking and kidnapping. Benson intends to put Johny as the birth father of Noah since in the adoption papers the father is indicated as unknown. This information about Noah’s adoption becomes the subject at the trial of Johny. His lawyer argues that the case should be dismissed because Benson hid information about Noah and that she wants to deny Johny parental rights.
Benson is in a dilemma regarding Noah. She feels that even if Johny is convicted for his crimes, he might contest parental rights and get to have parental visitation. She thinks she might have to take Noah to prison to visit his father until he reaches eighteen.
Johny is killed during the proceedings. Meanwhile, Benson has become so attached to the kid that at one time we see a conversation where Lucy tells him Noah has refused to sleep until he sees his mother. Benson eventually gets to win the case of adoption and adopts Noah legally.
