To produce GMO you need to be able to digest DNA using restriction endonucleases and then separate the fragments.
Produce a training guide in the form of a Standard operating procedure for this activity (SOP). You will need to include detail of the use of restriction endonucleases and the separation of products.
Task 4 – D3
The main output of the GM department is GMOs, you need to produce a flow chart that shows all the steps involved in this from start to finish, including ethical approval and health and safety checks you would use. Use as your example modified E.coli that can be used to produce human insulin.
Diagrams and flow charts must be fully annotated including the rational for each step
Then explain the advantages of using genetically modified bacteria, as opposed to extracting insulin from pig or cow pancreatic tissue. (Pros and cons)
