The Role of Leadership in Improving Organizational Best Practices in a Global Firm
Sound leadership in an organization is capable of directing a company with appropriate measures to guide an organization against its competitors to achieve better performance through best practices (Katou 2015). The leadership creates suitable environment and climate that ensures the adoption of best practices within an organization for its functions and general operation. Establishing how leadership plays a role in improving best practices and consequently the performance of an organization creates a deeper understanding within the context of ensuring efficient processes within a firm and its better performance. Organization molds behavior and ensure maintenance of best practices and standards (Ng & Sears, 2012).
Leadership influences employee performance, which then reflects on the performance of a company. Current literature has contributed much to understanding the role of organizational leadership in improving organizational performance through best practices. The leadership is important in determining what practices are essential for the operation of the organization and those not required. Even if initiating change and performance from the junior levels, it is incumbent on the leadership to embrace the changes that are beneficial to the organization.
Mediating Role of Organizational Leadership
Katou (2015) explains that there are mediating mechanisms that link organizational leadership to performance through best practices as trust and commitment is encouraged on workers. Organizational leadership is important in increasing organizational outcomes and handles eliminating workplace politics that may result into unproductiveness. Andrews, Harris, Kacmar, and Tepper (2013) in their article discovered that organizational leadership is capable of moderating direct and indirect effects in a company. Weak leadership encourages poor practices in an organization, which may cripple the operations of a corporation.
Best Practices and Performance Management
The performance measures in an organization identify methods that can be categorized as best in a group dedicating the effectiveness of the company and ultimately reflect on its performance. For better performance, different measures such as the change in organization design and performance indicators can be undertaken according to Bechara, Leung, Sun, and Van, (2012). Bechara, Leung, Sun and Van (2012) focused on changing organization designs and performance frontiers and proposing contingency models to determining performance shifts. Best practices in an organization are directly linked to the performance of the employees and the organization as well.
Organizational Performance Based on Best Practice
Al-Lamki, Moideenkutty, and Sree (2011) investigated the relationship between high-involvement practices of human resource with organizational performance concluding that higher involvement is related to subjective performance. Organizations can enhance their performance through proper leadership that coordinates best practices despite other factors within the business environment (Al-Lamki, Moideenkutty, and Sree, 2011). An organization that put the focus on sound practices achieves better measurable performance as compared to competitors in the industry and the market (Chatzoglou, and Theriou, 2014).
The gaps in the literature are the lack of previous works that focuses directly on relating organizational leadership as an influence of best practices in the organizations. Much as there is research relevant to the subject, they are not much and do not give peculiar focus on the topic. My recommendation is that many gaps need filling in terms of research in the area, and a focus on leadership and styles, and the organizational performance, will give proper understanding of the importance of leadership and their roles in companies (Ng, & Sears, 2012).
