The New Organizational Forms

Businesses are now being transformed by technology and the unlimited availability of information accessed via the Internet. The ability to utilize new forms of organizations however will require a transformation of corporate culture as well as organizational processes. It is important to explore the different emerging forms of organization and learn how they shape up the environment.

            There is the evolution of new organizational forms as a result of rapid changes in the environment. Quasi-similar organizations are coming up which late evolve into new organizational forms according to Fiol (2012). Such forms of organizations need to be then recognize and distinguish from established organizational populations and other emerging similarity clusters by the organizations and adopt their features so as to improve effectiveness in the current and future operations.

            Another form of organization is the management consulting form of organization. This form of organization eliminates the status quo of the previous forms and provides solutions to organizations on strategic and operational issues. Companies exploiting this form create linkages with authorities and affiliates, as David et al. (2013) explains. Linkages are crucial for companies’ survival and their understanding of competitors.

            Virtual organization is another form of organization which can be said to be emergent in the 21st Century according to Dellios (2011). This form has emerged as a result of advancement of technologies which supports and offers avenues for virtualization. Information technology and internet advancements in specific have offered organizations solutions to the many constraints organizations experience. Dodgson, Gann and Phillips (2013) sought to explore how virtualization came to be embraced through a process they refer to as “convergent recognition” this form of organization is common in current companies, proving to be effective as it provides much more ease and flexibility for operations.

            These new forms of organization face identity crisis as some companies are not ready to freely take and adopt them. Another reason to the crisis is the need for companies to establish them on their own distinctive identities that are different from the competitors as Kings, Clemens and Fry (2011) suggested.
