How do you think factors of biology, experience, and attitudes influence (d) your career choice?
Factors of biology influence career choice due to the belief that gender difference affects the performance of males and females in different subjects. For example, boys are believed to perform well in mathematics and science subjects compared to females. This makes the performance of females to decrease due to the negative thoughts that they can never make it. When it is time to choose a career, boys will choose one that is in the field of mathematics and science because that is where they qualify while girls choose other fields that are not related to mathematics.
The attitudes that involve a way of thinking about something or having an opinion may affect how people respond to something. The attitudes affect self-confidence when one believes that he/she cannot make it in a certain area in life. The attitudes of parents and teachers towards different subjects affect the performance of students. Performance influences career choice because it determines where the student is qualified. Males see themselves as more competent compared to females and advance in careers that females cannot.
Experience from the knowledge gained through exposure or after performing a certain task influence career choice. Male and females have a different experience that is why boys join mathematics club due to experience in mathematics while females join clubs that deal with humanities. Parents and teachers provide different experiences to the students that help them to make career choices. They should be careful when guiding them so that they follow the right directions according to their abilities. Children tend to believe what they are told due to the exposure of their parents and teachers.
