The Lower Middle Class
Variation in wealth, possession, power, authority and prestige is evident in our society day-to-day life. Such aspects affect access to education, health status, family life, political role, religion and experience to injustices. Social class is something we live with and is influenced by, or can influence other determinants in life depending on the socioeconomic, cultural and political environment, as there exists disparity on people awareness and access to such factors. Several factors contribute to the disparity in social class in different environments and across boundaries such as resources and outcome. To some, which in some instances is the case, unfair distribution of resources, power and authority contributes to the disparities.
However, to some people social class does not matter in determining their end, but the means, as several people can create income and ensure that they boost their resources, education and wellbeing. Even if there is no chance of being in-charge over some places or things, or even in unfavorable control tenures, there can still be a chance to strive to achieve a better place in the social ladder. As much as material possession can be a basis of class disparity, personal status in terms of esteem, intelligence, ability and profession are other aspect that are linked to disparity. In this way therefore, different people belong to different position in the economic system based on their occupations, economic stability, influence and authority.
People of the same social class influence one another and possibly others out their class, aware of their abilities over the same. Different social classes have different values that members who belong to them share with distinct characteristics that categorize them differently. The previous social status of an individual or the highest education level does not probably influence the prospective social class, but in most cases the determination and the efforts of an individual does. It is obvious that people experience shifts in social class either on elevation or on fall, depending on the economic dynamics or other instabilities.
The lower middle class is one of the different social classes that individuals can belong to, normally with the largest proportion of the population, falling over a third of the total productive population. Under this class, which best suits me; persons like me are required to follow strict orders from the senior people at the work place who belong to the upper middle class. With my technical position, I am able to achieve sustainability for my family and myself within a mainstream lifestyle with the hope of being able to achieve much more in case of any opportunity. Even though there exists the feeling that there is a possibility of falling below the class in case of economic recess or inflation, I do not feel insecure about my job.
My college study is an assurance that I have the ability to rise the social class ladder making a notch in terms of achievement and economic ability and status. This class fits me because I do not consider myself rich, neither do I have higher income coupled with higher social prestige, and not very highly educated as those who falls on the upper middle class. I cannot also say I am in the working class since I have hope of getting higher in the social class and even changing roles, borrowing much skill and practices from the seniors other than feeling contented with my status as it is, and as such, I fit the class in my current state.
