Topic 5 – Evils and morals
The topic is found in the movie “How to Get Away with Murder.” Annalise Keating is a criminal law professor who is brilliant, creative and passionate in her work. She is also unpredictable and dangerous. She represents the most hardened criminals. She defends people who are committed to fraud arson and murder. She does everything to win their freedom. This brings up the question of morality. Annalise is endowed with a loving husband and a successful career. Her affair with detective Nate forces her to confront secrets of her life.
Annalise annually selects a group of most intelligent students to her law firm. These students work under two of her associates Frank Delfino and Bonnie Winterbottom. When Rebecca becomes the suspect of the murder of a beautiful university student, Annalise involvement with the case brings a challenge to her students’ values, convictions and dreams. They have to learn the dark truth about the law and justice system.
The events in this movie leave several ethical questions to be addressed. How can someone defend hardened criminals and seek their freedom? Is it morally right to do so? These questions come up as one asks himself or herself what is more important, defending the morals of the society or advancing one’s career
