Adaptation-Level phenomenon, textbook, p.602
PG and RG decided to adopt JR since they had no child of their own. Prior to joining the children’s home where the couple got him, JR had been living in a very abusive family. He was malnourished and his parents were rarely home. The social workers were the ones who came to his rescue. When two weeks later PG and RG expressed interest to adopt him, it was a double blessing for JR. He was very grateful for his new parents. He was at this time five years old, though he looked like a two year old.
Two years after adoption, JR started complaining to his foster parents. He said that they were not taking him out as his friend’s parents did for their children. He complained that his parents did not love him. They had a hard time convincing him how much they loved him. In fact, they provided him with everything he needed. Their work schedule could not however allow them to take him out as he wished.
JR had adapted to the new lifestyle and was craving for more (Myers, 2012). He had already forgotten his past and was getting used to the new one.
