RG and his wife MG went through a heated divorce process. During the court proceedings, there were accusations and counter accusations from both sides. Each party viewed itself as the good one and the other as the bad one. This was a real case of mirror image perception (Myers, 2012).
The reason for the divorce was irreconcilable differences. MG accused her husband of being uncaring and unfaithful. She said RG never listened to her and was always away from home. She said that she had tried her best to be a good wife but RG never seemed to appreciate or even care about it. On the other hand, RG accused his wife of being nagging and disrespectful. She never understood him and never obeyed him. He claimed that he was working very hard to provide for his family and keep it together. They had one son. He said that he always created time for his family and had been very faithful to his wife. Each session of the proceedings was characterized by altercations from both parties.
None of them was willing to admit liability. They both felt the other party was the one in the wrong and responsible for the current state of their marriage. It was indeed impossible to bring the two parties together or even bring them on a level ground to settle the divorce.
